Questions and Answers
What
happens in case of rain or extreme temperatures?
If weather conditions
present a risk to the safety of passengers or
horses, we reserve the right to cancel.
We do not cancel for rain until the last minute
– as Houston weather changes so quickly.
We do operate during a slight drizzle, and we
can use a roof that keeps passengers dry. In the
hot Texas summer, we suggest you schedule rides
in the evening and choose routes with the most
shade for passenger and horse comfort. We will
not operate the carriage if the temperature is
too extreme.
Do
we sign a written agreement?
Yes. We will send you a contract. Once we
receive your signed contract and deposit, your
event will be booked.
How early do I need to schedule?
To ensure availability, it is better to schedule
early. Still, it may be possible to schedule your
event even on short notice.
How
long is a carriage ride normally?
This depends entirely on you. It takes approximately
20 minutes to go 1 mile. Long distances are not
recommended if guests are waiting. Most wedding
couples choose to go a short distance and then
have a limo waiting to go on from there.
Busy roadways will be evaluated on a per-case
basis. Safety of the passengers and horses is
a priority and dangerous roadways will be avoided.
How
long is the carriage available for our event?
Events are booked for a minimum of 2 hours. Your
time will start at the time and location you give
in your contract.
Setup, travel time and clean up are not included
in your 2 hours.
What
if we go over 2 hours?
We charge an overtime rate of $25 for each 15
minutes over the agreed 2 hours.
How
is the carriage driver dressed?
The carriage driver is dressed formally in tails
and top hat, and the carriage groom is dressed
accordingly. We would be happy to discuss other
dress arrangements to match your event.
How
is the carriage decorated?
A simple garland of ivy and white flowers is draped
on the sides of the carriage. During the holidays,
a pine garland is used instead.
You may feel free to provide any other decorations
to carry out your event theme.
Do
we need to obtain any special permits to have
a horse and carriage at our event?
Permits are not required for Texas public city
streets. They may
be necessary on private property, including neighborhoods,
public parks or reception venues.
Do you charge for mileage?
We do not charge for anything within a 50 mile
radius of our location in Cypress. Anything beyond
that is billed at generally
$1.00 per mile round trip.
